Missile Strikes, Employment and the Stock Market

Yesterday SPX bounced off of that 50-day moving average but overnight you had some pretty intense news coming out of Washington that they launched missiles into Syria. You can find the details everywhere about the strike, but how that affects the market is that initially the market traded sharply lower right away. But has since, per the usual, traded back to near break even on the day. In fact it was trading in the green for a little bit until the nonfarm payrolls came out and missed horribly.

Defense companies are trading higher, particularly Raytheon (RTN) since it was their tomahawk missiles that were used. Banks on the other hand are showing some weakness with the odds for a June rate hike dropping a small bit due to the NFP miss.

So you got all sorts of variables playing into the market this morning. Price, as always, will be what we watch. And watch the 50-day moving average. If it breaks, it strikes a much more bearish tone on the market.

Meanwhile, did you see my SharePlanner Reversal indicator last night? It is flashing a bullish reversal signal this week….all the more interesting.
