Maybe I’m taking it a little to far, but this market is insanely boring so far this week.
I’m not surprised by it being this quiet and this dull, I mean every summer is like this, unless you have a financial crisis, or some European meltdown like was seen in the summer months of 2011. However, that doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it. It simply makes it to where we find ourselves holding on to positions longer, because the moves get smaller and smaller, because the interest in the market is less and less. Again, you can do quite well in this kind of market, and in recent years, some of the best months of the year were during the summer time, so don’t rule it out, just know that it is slow and steady as she goes.
I’ve put together a list of short setups to consider, but here’s the thing with shorting on low volume, is that the erractic pops the market engages in, and without reason, can instantly wipe out gains and the moves to the downside that you might have been benefiting from. You won’t have the kind of conviction and gusto that we saw back in, say Q4 of 2018 with the way the selling has unfolded so far in the last three days.
Here’s the list of short-setups.
