My Swing Trading Approach
I booked some profits and cut my long exposure yesterday, while adding a short position and making my portfolio “neutral”. I’ll add more short positions today if the current pre-market weakness persists.
Indicators
VIX – Still pushing lower. That magnetic pull to “10” is still in full effect. Today could change things.
T2108 (% of stocks trading below their 40-day moving average) – Breadth was bullish yesterday, and that filtered into T2108. Still, only 40% of stocks are trading above their 40-day moving average.
Moving averages (SPX): 20-day moving average continues to provide resistance for the S&P 500, everything else has been broken already.
Industries to Watch Today
Autos have shown some favorable price action and chart action of late. Banks stuck in sideways consolidation and untradeable at the moment. Chinese stocks continue their bullish pace. Specialty Retail (i.e. AMZN, BABA, BZUN and EBAY) could see some favorable price action as a result of BABA earnings.

My Market Sentiment
I’m skeptical – I have been this way, the past few days of trading when the market bounce began showing signs of stalling out.

Welcome to Swing Trading the Stock Market Podcast!
I want you to become a better trader, and you know what? You absolutely can!
Commit these three rules to memory and to your trading:
#1: Manage the RISK ALWAYS!
#2: Keep the Losses Small
#3: Do #1 & #2 and the profits will take care of themselves.
That’s right, successful swing-trading is about managing the risk, and with Swing Trading the Stock Market podcast, I encourage you to email me (ryan@shareplanner.com) your questions, and there’s a good chance I’ll make a future podcast out of your stock market related question.
Emotional trading will destroy one’s portfolio. Aiming to hit home runs with every trade is a sure sign that the trader is overly emotional and only cares about fast money. In this podcast episode Ryan explains how chasing after stocks like MicroStrategy (MSTR) without a plan for managing the risk can ultimately ruin a trader’s attempt at being a successful swing-trader.
